Statement from Ambassador Cindy H. McCain on her Appointment as Executive Director of the World Food Program
A statement from United States Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agencies in Rome Cindy H. McCain on her appointment as Executive Director of the World Food Program:
March 2, 2023
I am deeply honored to be appointed as the next Executive Director of the World Food Program. WFP has been a part of my life for decades, from my time as a humanitarian to today as the U.S. Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Food and Agriculture Agencies in Rome.
I am ready to roll up my sleeves and spend time both in Rome and in the field, deepening my understanding of WFP’s vital work, and making sure it continues to grow to meet the needs of a hungry world. I can’t wait to work with the incredible team at WFP – their dedication and commitment to a better world is an inspiration to me, and to us all.
While I am thrilled to take on my new role, I pay tribute to my colleagues at the U.S. Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome. I am grateful for their service to our country. At a time when so much is uncertain, the continued support and tireless work of our diplomats and staff has proven that with action and determination, we can solve any problem.
The road ahead is daunting, and hunger is on the rise. However, I’m sure of one thing – when we come together as one world, we can save lives.
