Michael P. Glover - Deputy Chief of Mission

Mr. Glover is a career diplomat with the U.S. Department of State with the rank of Minister Counselor and previously served as Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Guayaquil, Ecuador and as an Economic Officer at American embassies in London, Paris, Quito and Mexico City as well as at the U.S. Mission to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris and the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara, Mexico.

His Washington assignments at the State Department include several positions in the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs, including as Deputy Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs where he coordinated the State Department’s global support for the U.S. business community and promoted corporate social responsibility abroad.

As Director of the State Department’s Office of Environmental Policy, Mr. Glover managed the United States participation in a wide range of multilateral environmental agreements. Immediately prior to his current assignment in Rome, Mr. Glover served as Director of the Office of Technical and Specialized Agencies in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs which is responsible for developing U.S. positions on all foreign policy and institutional issues in over 30 multilateral organizations, including a number of UN specialized agencies.

Mr. Glover entered the State Department as a PhD candidate in international economics and business at the University of Texas and also holds a Masters Degree in history. He is the author of a book on Middle Eastern economic policy as well as various articles on international economics. Mr. Glover worked for a number of years as a scuba diving instructor in the Caribbean and the Pacific, including the Galapagos Islands. He is married with three children.
